• how to appear in social media, how you want your business to be seen
• why does it matter
So, let’s get into it, what to post, and how to appear on social media?
What to post and how to appear in social media? And why does it matter?
As a business owner, you have probably already come to realize that social media channels are a must these days to gain visibility. It may be a foreign world to you, and maybe that is why you have postponed being involved with it. However, you hear talks about social media around you and realize that your visibility is zero if your business is not online in any of the social media platforms today.
Of course, an unknown world can be a place you don’t desire to step into. Or maybe, there simply isn’t time for you to fully concentrate on how things are done, and therefore the decision has been to stay away. Whatever the reason is, this is the moment to think about the fantastic opportunities that social media offers, and rethink your involvement.
What to post on Instagram?
The first thing is first. Keep in mind that the account is representing your business. Things posted in the private account are often entirely different things than what is posted on the business account. I will tell you an example of my first post ever made to my main account, which was first my private account, and then switched into a business account. My first ever post was a picture of my new running shoes, neon yellow and pink ones. I remember how nervous I was for posting that picture. Even though I had only a handful of followers and all of them, my friends. So, I can fully relate to the feelings of a person who is new to Instagram, and above all, if you are new to it and starting with your business account, I feel you. So, before anything else think about this; do you want to start from scratch with your business (if you are the business owner) or turn your private account into a business account. My advice is to keep these two separate, even though it may require more work.
Now that this thing is out of the way, it is time to start planning. What to post on Instagram? First, remember, there are frequently new features on Instagram, and in that way, it is changing all the time. Focus on one step at the time. Mastering one area of Instagram before proceeding. Being on Instagram doesn’t require you to post pictures daily onto your feed, I suggest you focus on quality posts on your feed (quality over quantity). As a business owner, posts should be something that relates only to your business, it is also a good chance for you to give some extra value to your customers and potential customers. Keep your feed exciting, filled with quality posts, and people will also be interested in what is happening in your business in the future.
For example, let’s say you are a personal trainer. You could start the weekly posts on Monday telling something motivational to your audience like: “Journey to your new self starts by taking the first step, and today is the perfect day to take that step.” On Wednesday, you could tell some quick training tips to your audience, share a short training session. And on Friday remind them to reload their batteries during the weekend and note that quality food (over the junk food) is part of reloading.
How you want your business to be seen?
Before continuing on to posting something, it is good to stop and think about how you want your business to be seen online. What is the visual side of my business? What I want my audience to see? It is always good to be real and unique, and when talking about business, keeping it positive is always good (must) as well. Keeping this in mind, you are still allowed to look around and see how other people are doing things. Maybe look more into your competitors or other businesses that you are interested in. See how they are doing things, is there some good ideas to adopt, or does it make it clearer to you on which way you desire to go with your feed (and which way you don’t want to go). Feel free to look around and plan and build it in your head or paper, focusing solely on how you want your business to be seen?
Why does it matter what you post?
So what is the point of all this, why does it matter what you post on your Instagram feed. Instagram is a visual platform. The pictures are the main thing, the appearance of the feed is the main thing. That is why, I would say, anything just won’t go what comes to posting on Instagram. Instagram feed is your business card.
Let’s think about this another way. Select one business that is close to your heart (besides your own). Go to the profile of that business and see how the feed looks like. Is it well organized? Does it represent the business in question? Are the visual effects of the feed in question pleasurable to look at, or does it hurt your eyes? If you were to choose whether you buy something from that company based on the Instagram feed, based on the pictures alone, would you?
After all these steps, you can start to think about your account again. Take your time and plan. It will pay off later.
There you have it a few ideas about what to post and how to appear on social media? And why does it matter?
